"Every portfolio has a building zero — the one where conviction becomes commitment. For MOVA, that building is The Valiant. Four homes in Calgary. The beginning of everything."
Design Vision · The Valiant
Project Overview
The Valiant is a fourplex in Calgary, AB — MOVA's first multifamily project, completed and held. Four homes designed with the same belief that would define everything that came after: that rental housing deserves the same design attention as anything else. That tenants notice quality. That a building held for decades needs to be built for decades.
The Valiant isn't the most complex project in the portfolio. It's the most important. It's where the model was tested, refined, and proved. Every decision made here shaped how MOVA approaches the projects that followed.

What MOVA Learned Here
Design Drives Retention
The Valiant's tenants stayed. Not because the rents were below market — because the homes were worth staying in. Design-led rental is a retention strategy, not just an aesthetic choice.
Build for the Hold
Material decisions made with a 20-year owner's mindset perform differently than those made to hit a construction budget. The Valiant was MOVA's first proof of that thesis.
Small Projects, Big Lessons
At four units, every decision is visible. There is nowhere to hide. The discipline required to build the Valiant well is the same discipline that runs through every project since — just applied at larger scale.
The Valiant was MOVA's first. The Arncote was the proof of concept at scale. The Hockley is the model in full expression. The pipeline keeps growing — because the conviction hasn't changed.
